One regular afternoon, a visitor spotted the couple’s painting on display in the antique store. Instantly, he made his way to Auker and pointed out that he believed the picture was an original piece by the famed Dutch artist, Willem de Kooning, seen in the photo. For those who do not know, Kooning was one of the most famous abstract expressionist painters ever, and by far the most well-known from the Netherlands.
Auker could not believe his ears. If what the man said was true, if the painting was by Kooning, it could be worth millions, if not more! Maybe this explained why Auker had felt he had seen the piece before! Still, the antique dealer could not help but suspect the man was simply messing with him.
