English athlete Anya Major is a woman of many talents. Not only is she an actress, model, and singer, but she also appeared in Apple’s 1984 commercial to introduce the very first Macintosh PC. The ad portrayed a dystopian future that inspired by George Orwell’s novel 1984.
In it, Major raced down streets and into a theater carrying a giant…wait for it…hammer! Yes, that’s right. She then threw the hammer into a screen showing a “Big Brother” movie. Believe it or not, Apple used the commercial to quell the fear that computers would enslave mankind. However, after the commercial, Apple actually received a cease-and-desist letter from the estate of George Orwell. It seems like they didn’t get permission to use Big Brother! Major still earned her $370,000, though!
