Leon Spinks – Gambling Debts

CBS Television

Leon Spinks is a former heavyweight boxing champion who earned approximately $4.1 million during his professional career. Believe it or not, during the peak of his career in the late ’70s, Spinks even managed to defeat the one and only Muhammad Ali. However, less than two decades later, Spinks was utterly broke and even homeless!

Unfortunately, Spinks later admitted that he had spent his money frivolously, squandering it away on gambling and illegal substances. At the same time, unsurprisingly, Spinks also had many run-ins with the laws. In the end, he lost almost all of his money, and actually started working as a janitor at a YMCA in Columbus. Thankfully, now, Spinks has a more stable job as a spokesperson for boxers who have suffered head trauma.
