JaMarcus Russell – Job Loss

Athletes Who Went Broke

Newsweek

JaMarcus Russell started his career playing college ball for the LSU Tigers and went on to have an amazingly successful career. In 2007, he was awarded the title of MVP at the Sugar Bowl and, the same year, was selected by the Oakland Raiders as their first overall pick. Ultimately, he earned a $61 million contract with the team! It seemed like Russell had a bright future ahead of him!

However, while in the NFL, Russell was not a dependable player and never really made any plays. Unfortunately, after spending two years with the Raiders, the team decided to let him go. Since then, Russell has not played for any other teams and eventually ran out of money. He is often ranked as one of the biggest busts in NFL history.
