Darren McCarty became a household name for hockey fans during his time playing for the Detroit Red Wings in the 1990s. During that time, McCarty not only made over $15 million, but he also made some abysmal financial decisions. As a result, he filed for bankruptcy just a few years ago, saying he had no money left!
When he filed, McCarty claimed that $6 million of what he owned was to creditors. Talk about some serious credit card bills! It seems that over the years, McCarty had become accustomed to a certain lavish lifestyle that he simply could not afford after he stopped playing in the NHL.
