Long before Johnny Carson became the most famous hos in late-night history, he also served in the military! The television host joined the U.S. Navy back during World War II. There, Carson became a midshipman assigned to the USS Pennsylvania in the Pacific Ocean. During the war, he also briefly worked as a communications officer responsible for decoding encrypted messages!
After he safely returned home, Carson went to college, earning a degree in journalism. From there, it’s easy to see how he became the host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. It’s really no wonder he became a pop culture icon in entertainment, winning six Emmys for his outstanding and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
