Hauser’s considerable experience in the ocean proved essential during her confrontation with the humpback whale. “I didn’t want to panic, because I knew that he would pick up on my fear,” she said.
It’s truly a miracle that Hauser found the strength to stay calm in the terrifying encounter. However, despite her calm exterior, inside, the marine biologist was preparing for the worst. “I stayed calm to a point but was sure that it was most likely going to be a deadly encounter.” Even worse, while Hauser had not come on the trip alone, her team could do nothing to help her.
