After measuring and examining the arm bone fragments, Slon collected ancient DNA from the inside and started running tests. Although the longest piece was less than one inch long, the DNA inside revealed tons of new information.
First, it gave a more complete picture of the bone’s owner: it came from a young girl, around 13-years-old, who walked the Earth about 90,000 years ago!
