Slon could not believe her eyes. What she had in front of her was, without question, a hybrid-human that belonged to two different species of archaic humans. For decades, scientists believed that archaic humans might have mated, but could not have produced a hybrid child. That theory was now dashed to pieces.
“We knew from previous studies that Neanderthals and Denisovans must have occasionally [mated], but I never thought we would be so lucky as to find an actual offspring of the two groups,” Slon explained to The Evening Standard. After all this time, it seemed scientists might have finally found a clue to the mythical “missing link.”
