At a very young age, actress and singer Betty Lynn’s mother taught her how to sing and dance. While her grandfather did not approve at the time, we’re sure that Lynn is happy her mother did it! By 18, Lynn went on a USO tour singing and when she returned, the actress earned the role of a lifetime: Thelma Lou, Deputy Barney Fife’s girlfriend, on The Andy Griffith Show.
In 1986, 20 years after her last episode on The Andy Griffith Show, Lynn reprised the role of Thelma Lou in the TV movie Return to Mayberry, where Thelma and Barney finally marry. In 2006, Lynn retired from Hollywood to relocated to Mount Airy, North Carolina, the hometown of Andy Griffith and inspiration for Mayberry!
