La Bamba has turned out to be the type song that many artists have tried to perform, but many of them have failed when it came to gaining popularity. At least until Los Lobos came along in 1987 and took a shot at the well-known lyrics. It held the number one spot on the charts in several countries for quite some time afterward.
Los Lobos is a band that is still going strong to this day and have kept coming out with album after album. Nothing has really managed to surpass the fame they got with La Bamba, but that does not take away from the recognition they received afterwards, as they even during recent years got nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
