However, Kournikova and Martina Hingis did become number one in doubles, after winning the Australian Open not once, but twice.
Still, even though she had limited success on the court, Kournikova became something of a cultural phenomenon. In fact, she retired at the age of 21 to focus on modeling and acting. Afterward, she appeared in Enrique Iglesiasā music video for his song āEscape.ā At the time, Kournikova refused to confirm their relationship.
