Who doesn’t remember their childhood best friend? After all, friends help us through tough times and make the good times all the better. Sadly, while most of us would love to remain best friends with our childhood buddies forever, that isn’t always the case. Just ask Jessica Stuart! While growing up in Japan, the young Canadian girl always felt a little out of place. That is until she became best friends with Fukue, a Japanese girl her same age.

When Stuart moved back to Canada, she and Fukue remained pen-pals. However, one day, Fukue’s letters simply stopped coming! As Stuart grew older, she started to wonder more and more about what happened to her childhood best friend. Finally, as an adult, Stuart decided to try and find Fukue. And when she discovered the truth, she could hardly believe it…
