Fukue could not believe that someone from her childhood had not only remembered her, but so continued to think about her all those years. Even more amazing, Stuart had actually worked hard to track her down! While she never knew it, Fukue had never lost her best friend – the distance just put things on hold for a little while.
During their reunion, Fukue explained why she had stopped writing, and the story broke Stuart’s heart. As it turns out, after Stuart left, Fukue had found it hard to make friends. She did not do well in school, and the other children bullied her because of her grades and her family’s lack of money. Needless to say, Fukue fell into a depression and simply decided to stop writing.
