In just a matter of moments, Stuart says she knew that Fukue was different from all the other girls in her class. As stated, her other classmates felt preoccupied with her Canadian descent, blonde hair, and Canadian accent. However, despite their language challenges, Fukue asked Stuart about what she liked to do and her day-to-day life.

After overcoming their language gap, Stuart and Fukue’s friendship blossomed into something beautiful. The girls would often spend all day together at school and even after! Even today, Stuart remembers their time spent “catching frogs in rice paddies.” Fukue even started defending her new friend at school!
