Low Budget Movies That Made More Than Their Money Back
1. The Blair Witch Project – $60,000
If you were heading to the theater in the ’90s, you likely remember the release of The Blair Witch project in 1999. After all, it was one of the first low budget movies to feature the “found footage” gimmick. In fact, the result was so startling and new that some viewers believed that the fictional documentary was real! Of course, the brilliant marketing campaign, which included an equally-convincing website and involved the actors hiding out, didn’t hurt either!
In the end, the Blair Witch project went on to make $238 million, while costing only $60,000. Yes, you read that right! Today, it still remains the most profitable horror film of all time.
