Even though lottery winners in the past have donated money to churches, it came nowhere close to Holmes’ generous donation. For instance, a Boston lotto winner donated $100,000 to a church for a one-of-a-kind Christmas dinner a while back. However, Holmes’ contribution still remains one of the largest to a single church, ever.
