Born in Reno, Nevada, Dawn Wells is an American actress still best known for her role as Mary Ann Summers on CBS’s Gilligan’s Island. However, what many people don’t know is that Wells did not start off as an actress. Instead, she began as a model crowned Miss Nevada in 1959, representing her state in the Miss America Pageant 1960.
Following Gilligan’s Island, Wells focused on a theater career, appearing in nearly one hundred theatrical productions as of 2009. In 2016, MeTV, a TV channel that shows plenty of older shows, named her as their Marketing Ambassador. Wells continues to work there today, despite being 81-years-old!
