99 Cents Only has found itself between a rock and a hard place. You see, it has to face competition from similar companies like Dollar Tree and Dollar General, as well as Target and Walmart. In 2017, 99 Cents Only released a devastating report to investors: that year, the stores had lost over $70 million. As you might imagine, from there, things started to change pretty quickly…

From there, 99 Cents Only agreed to a buyout from Ares Management. Then it sold to Canada Pension Plan, before a private family. On the process, it also got itself a new CEO, Jack Sinclair, who stepped in for Geoffrey Covert. Even though some stores are reporting higher sales, 99 Cents Only continues to lose money. Don’t expect to see this one around in ten years!
