Rumors of treasure hiding on Oak Island have been around since long before the Lagina brothers ever stepped foot there. Most historians date the earliest legends all the way back to 1799! That’s when Daniel McGinnis, John Smith, and Anthony Vaughn, three teenagers, innocently went to the island for a day of fun. While there, they noticed something strange: a strange circular depression in the ground. So, they started digging to find out what could have caused the ground to sink down.
While the trio never revealed why, they abruptly stopped digging after a few feet. According to local legend, something terrifying scared the young men off. Others believe they simply became too tired to keep digging. Either way, Oak Island’s curse remained dormant for a few years. Until the Onslow Construction Company stepped in, discovering the first massive find on the island…
