As they like to say, “there’s no such thing as bad press.” Carls Jr. learned this first hand when they released an ad starring supermodel Charlotte McKinney during the 2015 Super Bowl. The commercial, for their new All-Natural Burger, featured McKinney eating a burger in little more than a skimpy bathing suit. While many enjoyed the ad, it had plenty of detractors. In fact, one critic said it “set feminism back four decades.”
However, in the end, the fans of McKinney’s ad won big. In less than a year, the video had earned over 4.5 billion media impressions worldwide and more than 13 million views on the chains’ YouTube channel. The ad also launched McKinney’s career, who is now starring in films, like the recent Fantasy Island remake.
