If you grew up in the ’80s, you almost certainly remember the great Clara Peller in her commercials for Wendy’s. While many commercials stars are hired for their youthfulness, Peller became quite the unlikely celebrity when she started working for the fast-food company at the age of 83. In the now-iconic commercial, the senior demanded to know, “Where the beed?” while looking at a burger made by a Wendy’s competitor. The catchphrase became a hit, spawning more commercials with Peller, posters, and even a rap song!

During the ’80s, Peller made more than enough to live on, earning roughly $500,000 per year from Wendy’s. That’s over one million a year in today’s cash! Unfortunately, Peller’s dream job did not last very long. She sadly died in 1987, at the age of 86.
