39. No Arranged Marriages

While many people assume the Amish have arranged marriages, they actually don’t force anyone to get married. Just like ordinary folk, Amish fall in love and marry whoever they decide. In fact, the Amish dating process is one of the few that looks very similar to current life.
Furthermore, if the Amish do have the choice to enter the church or not once they turn 18. Once they become a part of the church, they can marry anyone they want – as long as they’re also inside the church. So, while there are no arranged marriages, Amish cannot marry the English, regardless of their personal feelings.
