Diego Maradona is one of the greatest soccer players of all time, if not the greatest. Maradona hails from Argentina and played for his country in for consecutive World Cups, one of the highest counts of any player. Back in 1986, Maradona finally led Argentina to a World Cup, winning with one the most controversial goals ever! Whatever you think of him, Maradona is undoubtedly going down in the history books.
As you might imagine, Maradona made quite a fortune playing pro soccer. However, unfortunately, Maradona also had quite a reputation for not paying any taxes. So the Italian Tax Authority caught up to him in the late 2000s, demanding he pay a whopping $54 million in back taxes. Unsurprisingly, this put Maradona in the poor house, and he had no choice but to file bankruptcy afterward.
