Billy Sims – Bad Investments

Heisman

American former football player Billy Sims more than just a running back – he was one of the best. In fact, the Detriot Lions picked him number one in the 1980 NFL Draft! During his NFL career, Sims was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1980. He was also named first-team All-Pro in 1981. Unfortunately, Sims was forced to retire after four seasons in the NFL due to a knee injury.

After his retirement, Sims lost his wealth through failed business ventures, eventually filing for bankruptcy in 1990. Then, in 1995, Sims sold his Heisman Trophy to businessman Bob White for $50,000. Today, he has a net worth of just $30,000.
