George Best – Poor Spending Habits

For those who do not know, George Best was an Irish soccer player who played as a winger, spending most of his club career at Manchester United in the 50s and 60s. Today, Best is still regarded as one of the best footballers of all time. At the heyday of his career in the late 60s, George made around $150,000 per year – $1 million in today’s money.
Unfortunately, according to Best himself, he blew about 90% of his career earning on “women, drink, and fast cars.” Best filed for bankruptcy in 1983. He said, “I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars – the rest I just squandered.” At the time of his death in 2005, the soccer player had a net worth of just $250,000.
