Scottie Pippen – Bad Investments
NBA superstar Scottie Pippen played for 17 seasons, winning six title championships with the Chicago Bulls. Pippen, along with Michael Jordan, played a crucial role in transforming the Bulls into a championship team and in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1990s. However, unlike Jordan, Pippen made many poor financial decisions.
According to a 2010 report, Pippen lost approximately $120 million in career earnings through extravagant purchases and bad investments, like a $4 million Gulfstream jet. The jet had a faulty engine, with repairs costs as much as $1 million and, even then, never took off. While he’s still worth $30 million, experts believe he could have been worth nearly as much as Jordan, had he played his cards right.
