8. Magic Johnson

After retiring from the NBA back in the 1990s, Magic Johnson launched Magic Johnson Enterprises, an investment firm. While Enterprises owns a stake in a variety of companies, he mainly invests in franchise opportunities. Through his company, Johnson has purchased or opened movie theaters, gyms, Burger King, T.G.I Friday’s, and Starbucks locations.
That’s not all, though! Magic Johnson also became a part-owner of the LA Dodgers, which set him back about $50 million. Though he’s sure to make that back in no time! Meanwhile, in 2011, Johnson joined capital firm Detroit Venture Partners as an investor and partner. Since then, they have invested in tech startups like Waymark and iRule.
