These Box Office Bombs Cost Actors Their Careers
Usually, companies like Universal and Disney make millions, but not always! These movies, including stars like Reese Witherspoon and Bruce Wills, were flops!
47 Ronin (2013), Keanu Reeves – $161 Million Lost, Adjusted
Like The Alamo, 47 Ronin shares its unique name with an already well-established, famous film, and yet is not a remake. Then, Universal Pictures made another fatal mistake: the only cast one well-known American actor, Keanu Reeves. Hoping to spread-out their audience, they hired famous Japanese actors to fill out the cast. Unfortunately, the film failed to achieve success in either country.
The cost of a long, drawn-out period-fantasy-action piece, in addition to the cast’s large salaries, added up to $175 million in production costs alone. Add on that marketing costs of around $150 million and Universal needed a win. Instead, 47 Ronin barely made it over $151 million in total worldwide ticket sales.
