You know what they say: “the book is always better than the movie.” Well, sometimes the book sells better too! Sahara, based on the novel by bestselling author Clive Cussler, is an adventure film about treasure hunters who get caught up in a war in Mali. The stars Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn, and Penélope Cruz and was meant to be the first of many films based on Cussler’s favorite lead character, Dirk Pitt.
However, the box office results of Sahara put any stop to franchise talk. Nearly everyone that saw the movie said that not only was it an annoying Indiana Jones rip off, but that it made little sense. Things got so bad that Cussler sued the writer and director, stating they had not consulted with him about the script.
