Singer and actor Kris Kristofferson, born in Brownsville, Texas, enlisted in the military in 1961, after completing the Rhodes Scholar program at Oxford. While serving, he became a helicopter pilot, completed Ranger training, and even reached the rank of Captain! He then started teaching at West Point, while trying to start a music career in the evenings.
After songs like “Me and Bobby McGee” caused Kristofferson to become a country and folk legend, he resigned from a teaching position at West Point. Today, the singer has also become a respected actor, with more the 60 films to his name. Most famously, he starred in one of the many versions of A Star Is Born.
