If you grew up in the Northwest, then you probably still remember VIP’s. The Oregon-based restaurant chain stared becoming popular back in the late ’60s. By the mid-70’s VIP’s was the largest restaurant chain based in the state with 53 locations. Not only that, but VIP’s extended its reach to Nevada, California, Washington, and Idaho in the following years.

Part of VIP’s popularity rose from its accessibility: the company placed almost all of the locations near freeways, much like Denny’s. Unfortunately, VIP’s started to go under in the early ‘80s and actually sold most of its sites to Denny’s. The last of the locations were split up and sold by the 1990s.
