Later, Hauser would review the footage from her camera and the cameras on the boat. However, even before seeing a second of the video, she already knew what had happened. Hauser felt astounded that the humpback whale had been trying to save her life.
“Maybe the shark wasn’t going to attack me,” Hauser later said. “But [the whale] was trying to save my life.” Even at the time, the marine biologist knew that she would have a hard time convincing her colleagues of her experience. Hopefully, the video footage would confirm her beliefs! However, no one could have predicted just where the video would take Hauser.
