There are very few jazz artists who become famous actors, but Conrad Janis is one of the few! While he may have started as a jazz trombonist in the ’40s, Janis quickly jumped over to acting, scoring roles in shows like Get Smart, Cannon, and Happy Days. However, by far, his most prominent role was that of Mindy McConnell’s father, Frederick, on the smash television hit Mork & Mindy.
These days, however, Janis has returned to his roots and works as an advocate of traditional, big band jazz. In the late 1970s, he formed the Beverly Hills Unlisted Jazz Band, which still occasionally performs!
