Occasionally, one hit wonders find second lives as sporting event songs or samples in other songs. “Closing Time” by Semisonic, is one of these songs. After the karaoke classic, about every bartender’s favorite time, reached number one on the charts, Semisonic essentially disappeared. Soon enough, so to did “Closing Time.” However, in the 2000s, the song began popping up in movies and television everywhere. From Friends with Benefits to The Office, its now a soundtrack classic!
While “Closing Time” propelled Semisonic to legendary status in 1998, they broke up by 2001. But, in time, the band could not ignore their fans, reforming in 2017. They continue to perform today!
