Another one of the earliest rap songs to make it to the top ten, “Whoomp! (There It Is)” by Tag Team, spent an incredible ten weeks in the top ten of Billboard’s Hot 100. In fact, this little feat of endurance made the single the longest-running top ten songs of all time for four years, until 1997.
Since its release, “Whoomp! (There It Is)” has continued to enjoy a long life, appearing in hit movies like Elf, Addams Family Values, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Meanwhile, Tag Team has faded into obscurity – that is, until they started appearing in GEICO commercials in 2021, singing their one hit wonder!
