“Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers (1962)
What would Halloween be without this classic “graveyard smash?” In case you don’t remember – or were not there – holiday-themed songs were all the rage in the ’60s, and “Monster Mash” was no exception. Plus, the fact that it also came along with its own crazy choreography and included Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s perfect impression of Boris Karloff’s Frankenstein’s monster made sure that “Monster Mash” would be a hit.
While Pickett tried to recapture the national imagination with Christmas and Graduation versions of the “Monster Mash” song, they never took off like the original. Sadly, Picket passed away at the age of 69 in 2007, in his home in Los Angeles, California.
