While Ceylan had not found the sea monster he so desperately desired, he had found something equally as incredible. The building he and his team had located had been remarkably preserved for thousands upon thousands of years. It seemed to be in just as good of condition, if not better, than many archeological sites on dry land!
Over the coming weeks, Ceylan and his team dove into the depths Lake Van again and again. They studied the walls, which measured 13 feet high and three feet wide in some places, and mapped out the building. In total, it covered nearly a half-a-mile in the ground! Armed with all this information, the team felt ready to return home and announce their findings to the world. But what exactly had they found on the bottom of Lake Van?
