Just a few days after his expedition ended, Tahsin Ceylan and the dive team from Van Yuzuncu Yıl University, along with National Geographic, shared their discovery with the world. “Today, we are here to announce the discovery of a castle that has remained underwater in Lake Van,” Ceylan said.
“Archeologists will come here to examine the castle’s history and provide information about it,” he continued. In the future, Ceylan hopes that he can work with various teams to complete the much-needed investigation into the castle of the lost kingdom of Urartu. “The excavations need to be done underwater…we don’t [even] know how deep the walls are.” However, working with researchers worldwide is just the first part of Ceylan’s plan moving forward!
