Since discovering the underwater castle, researchers have worked hard to try and answer the many questions it has presented. After hundreds of dives down to the castle at the bottom of Lake Van, Ceylan and his team feel sure that the Urartian people are the ones who built it. Sadly, they could have never known the repercussions of building a castle right next to a lake. It probably looked beautiful at the time!

However, as stated, Lake Van’s waters rose dramatically, as discovered by scientists in the ’50s. Eventually, the lake’s waters overtook the castle, turning it into an Atlantis-like ruin! Of course, the next question that plagued the team was who lived in the castle. Now, they had a pretty good idea of who it might have been…
