Another important source of income for Queen Elizabeth is the Duchy of Lancaster. In case you didn’t know, the Duchy of Lancaster is a private estate of agricultural, commercial, and properties dating back to 1265. It’s also the family’s largest land parcel, some 46,500 acres. The principal purpose of this estate is to provide a source of independent income to the Queen, which it does quite well. In 2018, it produced $26 million in profit for the Queen!
Queen Elizabeth uses this source of income to cover for private and official expenses. That also includes some costs incurred by other members of the royal family who undertake official engagements on the Queen’s behalf.
