18. JK Rowling – $1 Billion

Believe it or not, author J.K. Rowling started writing Harry Potter on coffeehouse napkins. Along the way, she went from being a single mother on welfare to one of the richest women in history! Unfortunately, back in the early days, Rowling would often have to choose between buying groceries or writing supplies. Now, though, she’ll never need to worry about that again!
Even though Rowling has tried her best to keep her wealth a secret, research led by The New York Times and Forbes estimates her net worth sits at just about a billion. Yes, that right! In fact, that’s more wealth than the Queen of England herself, who comes in at $530 million.
