On the afternoon of July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin prepared to descend to the moon. They entered the lunar module, Eagle and separated from the command module. From inside, Collins inspected the Eagle to ensure that the landing gear deployed properly. Thankfully, it did. “The Eagle has wings!” Armstrong exclaimed, in near disbelief that everything had worked so well. Who can blame him?

Just twenty minutes later, Armstrong would say his first incredibly famous quotes of the day: “Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.” Of course, at the time, the Apollo 11 crew had no idea Aldrin would put the entire moon landing in question a few decades later, with one careless comment…
