Known as the birthplace of the blues, Mississippi not only offers great music, but it also features Gulf Coast beaches and delicious Southern foods. However, what the Magnolia State doesnāt offer is an abundance of jobs. Unfortunately, Mississippiās unemployment rate is among the highest in the entire nation: 5.4% as of late 2019.
So, itās really no wonder that the many Mississippians say āsee yāall laterā to go and find an out-of-state job. However, thatās not the only reason Mississippians are leaving their home state. “It gets REALLY HOT out in the [Mississippi] Delta,” writes Tom H., on Quora. “Thereās tons of mosquitoes and biting flies too. Wonderful folks, terrible conditions.”
