As you might imagine, the purchase of a seven million dollar island will attract some attention. But, this time around, it was good attention! After Discovery Channel caught wind of the Lagina brothers’ plan, they reached out and offered to help fund the project if they could also produce a show about the process. The brothers agreed, and The Curse of Oak Island debuted in 2014.
The show became a massive hit when, in the very first season, the brothers, along with their team of experts, made a staggering discovery. While digging, they found a 17th-century Spanish coin missed by previous expeditions. Incredibly, the coin had somehow traveled nearly 3,000 miles some 350 years ago! Of course, this only drove the Lagina brothers’ desire to begin digging as soon as possible…
