13. Simple Clothes Only

Because they try to have minimal contact with the modern world, you won’t see any Amish shopping at the mall anytime soon. However, there’s another critical reason. As mentioned before, a big part of the Amish philosophy is avoiding vanity and selfishness, so they always make sure everyone feels equal.
That’s why all the women dresses are similar and straightforward, while men wear black pants and a plain shirt. Also, there’s no jewelry, makeup, accessories, outside of a hat or bonnet. Furthermore, they can’t even have a pattern in stitching that may set them apart from the rest. It makes one wonder: do you really need all those clothes you have?
