When the Amish have no choice but to take a loan, what makes them different is the way they view the debt. For the Amish people, taking a loan represents that the individual has the moral obligation to pay back what they owe.
The Amish love to lead a peaceful and simple life, and owing thousands of dollars in loans is anything but simple and peaceful. So, paying the debt not only cleanses their morality but also give paves them back to a quiet life. And while the banks quickly approve loans to the Amish community because of their impeccable reputation, they choose to stay away from them.
