Most Americans spend their entire lives focusing on earning as much money as they can so they can buy the nicest home, a lavish car, and the most luxurious clothing. However, for the Amish community, the big picture looks a little bit different. The economists that have studied the Amish population say that they care much more about the long term.
Unlike the rest of Americans, when the Amish accumulate money, they want to pass on their wealth to the next generation. Needlessly to say, with such large families, many parents have plenty of reason to save up to assure some stability for the next generation of their community.
