During the unofficial wedding season between late spring and early fall, it might seem like they destine a ton of money towards gifts. Then, the winter season comes around, and the gift-giving starts again. It looks like a never-ending cycle! But not for the Amish.
They don’t need to worry about the endless stream of gifting as the Amish have much less pressure when it comes to gift-giving. “The gifts are mainly need-based. A woman might give her husband an LED flashlight. They love these Dewalt flashlights. They’re off the electrical grid. It’s part of their wish to be independent of society. I think if they think they’re dependent on the grid, they’d pretty soon be dependent on the government,” Craker explains.
