Tony Gwynn – Medical Bills
For those not in the know, Tony Gwynn, also known as “Mr. Padre,” was an American baseball right fielder who played 20 seasons in MLB for the San Diego Padres. However, while the fantastic hitter signed a six-year, $4.6 million contract with the Padres in 1984, he still ended up filing for bankruptcy in 1987.
Despite his financial struggles, Gwynn remained unfazed on the field. Fortunately, Gwynn signed a three-year contract extension for $12.25 million, including a $1 million signing bonus in 1990. Following his baseball career, Gwynn became the baseball head coach at SDSU for 12 seasons. Gwynn passed away in 2014 due to complications from his salivary gland cancer.
